Where the table is set for more than dinner.
Brass & Onyx is an Australian restaurant built around the idea that a great meal and a thoughtful card game belong together. Our philosophy is simple: hospitality first, craft always, and the quiet thrill of offline poker as a social ritual.
We believe a restaurant can be a place of both nourishment and connection, where the clink of glasses meets the shuffle of cards. The philosophy draws on the precision of Swiss design and the warmth of Australian hospitality. No screens, no noise—just good food, good company, and the game.
View MenuThe Idea
Brass & Onyx began with a simple observation: the best conversations happen around a table, whether it's set with plates or cards. We wanted to create a space where the ritual of dining and the ritual of poker could coexist without compromise.
The restaurant is designed to be calm and elegant, while the card lounge offers a focused, social environment for offline poker. Our approach is rooted in Australian hospitality—warm, unpretentious, and generous. There is no wagering and no financial outcomes; the game is played for the pleasure of the play itself.
Hospitality First
Attention before action. We believe hospitality is an act of attention—noticing what a guest needs before they ask. Our team is trained to be present but unobtrusive, ensuring the evening flows naturally from aperitif to dessert.
Service in the lounge. In the card lounge, the same principle applies: dealers and hosts are there to facilitate the game, not to dominate it. They keep the rhythm steady and the atmosphere welcoming.
Details that ease. Every detail, from the weight of the cutlery to the felt on the poker tables, is chosen to make you feel at ease. The result is an evening that feels considered rather than performed.
The Craft of the Table
Our kitchen is guided by the same principles as a good poker hand: patience, precision, and knowing when to hold back. We use seasonal Australian produce, treated with respect and minimal intervention.
The menu changes regularly, but the commitment to clarity of flavour never wavers. Just as in Texas Hold'em, the best outcomes come from understanding the fundamentals and executing them flawlessly. Each dish is a quiet study in restraint and intention.
The Card Lounge
The card lounge is a dedicated space within Brass & Onyx where the focus shifts from the plate to the play. It is designed for comfort and concentration: low lighting, quiet acoustics, and professional-grade poker tables.
- Regular poker evenings, including Texas Hold'em formats
- A friendly, non-competitive atmosphere for all skill levels
- Professional-grade tables and comfortable seating
- Chips used only as table props—no wagering, no prizes, no financial element
- Knowledgeable hosts who keep the game moving
Poker Evenings
Our poker evenings are structured yet relaxed, designed for both newcomers and experienced players. Each evening begins with a brief introduction to the game's etiquette and rules, ensuring everyone feels comfortable at the table.
Texas Hold'em is the primary format, played in a social setting where the focus is on strategy and camaraderie. The evenings are hosted by knowledgeable staff who keep the game moving and the atmosphere light. It is a chance to think clearly, read the table, and enjoy the company.
The Social Ritual
Poker, at its best, is a conversation conducted with cards. It requires presence, attention, and a willingness to read others—skills that are increasingly rare in a digital world. In our card lounge, the game becomes a shared experience that strengthens bonds between friends and strangers alike.
The ritual of shuffling, dealing, and betting with chips as props creates a rhythm that is both calming and engaging. It gives the evening a shape, a pace, and a reason to stay a little longer at the table.
Our Space
Brass & Onyx occupies a heritage building in Sydney's King Street precinct, transformed into a modern dining room and card lounge. The interior is a study in Swiss modernism: flat white walls, pale-grey panels, and near-black accents.
The dining room flows into the card lounge, creating a sense of continuity between the two experiences. Every element, from the furniture to the lighting, is chosen for comfort and clarity. You will find us at 12 King Street, Sydney NSW 2000, Australia.
